The Ponies at the Lochalsh Stud are all registered Highlands, as pure as they come, bred from traditional Highland lines. Highland ponies have been bred and worked for use in farm work on the crofts and farms throughout the north of Scotland. They are also used, even today, to carry deer off the hills for stalking and grouse for shooting. Their placid easy-going temperament and tough constitution means they are increasingly in demand as a family pony as well as for crossing to produce a strong competition horse. The Stud offers a number of services to horse owners:
PROBLEM SOLVING: An increasing side of my business
is solving horse related behavioural problems on
the our or the owner's own premises throughout the Highlands and islands. Word of mouth
seems to be an effective method of communicating because I have not yet
advertised this service but my diary is rapidly filling up!

AGENCY: The Lochalsh Stud will act as agents for owners or buyers wishing to buy or sell horses or ponies, either within the UK or for export. Export and transport can be arranged to most areas, so do not let distance deter you. Enquiries are welcome. See Horses and Ponies for sale through The Lochalsh Stud on a separate page.
RIDING TUITION: Available by appointment. Please enquire .
Outside instructors are always more than welcome, and all
facilities are available for hire.
In exceptional circumstances, I can sometimes accommodate suitable cases on our own premises where we have all the necessary facilities including a flood lit schooling area. Below is Jasmine, a Thoroughbred mare who needed special attention.
All training is done in a relaxed atmosphere. The photos here are of Jasmine, 15.2hh Thoroughbred mare, who is being brought on at her own pace after being allowed to settle in her own time after a chequered earlier career with several previous owners. Click on thumb nail pictures to enlarge them!
ANNUAL KYLE SHOW: Unfortunately, the show had to be cancelled for 2007 due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we are already looking forward to this year's show. Watch this space!
